In The Beginning...Was The Command Line

Ever since I read Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon I started seeking out every word that he had written.  One of the shorter works I came across is this essay on the current state of our computing society.

Stephenson has been described as "the hacker Hemingway" and I must agree that he is probably one of the smartest writers I have read since William Gibson.

This work is an irreverent and witty look at the operating systems that we depend on to make our computing hardware more than just thousand dollar paperweights.

I won't give away the ending by telling you Stephenson's favorite but I have a feeling that after reading this many of you will be compelled to change from what you are probably using today.
